Career Paths

More room to find your own way.
That’s more like it.

What keeps people with Asda for long careers? The fact that you can do just about anything here – and that can take you anywhere you want to go.

When it comes to what you can achieve, we’re on another scale here at Asda. With incredibly diverse and fluid career routes, you could go from store assistant to managing your own store, or working for our Home Office team. We’ve got colleagues that have gone from Finance, to Operations, then over to Buying and HR. So if you’ve got the drive, it can take you across the business – whether it’s up, across, or into a completely new area. And we’re all about supporting you on that journey.

Here’s some of the paths you could take…

Retail

Let’s say you start out as an Hourly Colleague in one of our stores. Your journey could look like…

  • Colleague smiling at the till

    Hourly Colleague

As an hourly colleague you will work at the very heart of our stores, whether that is as a Store Assistant serving our customers, as a Stock Replenisher ensuring our customers are able to get all of their essentials or behind the scenes looking after our online orders. Whatever your role in store, you will put our customers at the heart of all you do.

  • Supervisor chatting to another colleague in front of shelves

    Section Leader

You’re first step into Leadership, as a Section Leader you’ll be the first point of contact for your team. Assisting them with training, ensuring colleagues are in the right place at the right time to meet our customers expectations. If you are looking for a chance to develop in retail, this could be the role for you.

  • Two colleagues filling up shopping baskets

    Section Manager

As a Section Manager, you'll motivate your Section Leaders and colleagues to deliver the best standards across your section, maximising availability and driving sales. An eye for detail is key, alongside maintaining shop floor standards and coaching your team to do the same.

  • Trading Manager

As a Trading Manager you will be responsible for driving sales and standards across your area, ensuring our products are available for our customers every day. Providing a great shopping experience for our customers should be at the heart of all you do alongside developing a team to excel.

  • Operations Manager

Within this role you will have overall accountability for the leadership and profitability of our online operation, the food hall, nights and warehouse operations. Delivering the highest operational standards will be at the heart of all you do, whilst driving a high performing team.

  • General Store Manager

Working with a team of managers and up to 500 colleagues, you will lead from the front to drive sales, set standards, deliver KRA’s and to put our values at the forefront of all you do. You will create an operation that keeps customers coming back every time.

There's always doors open to career development if you want it. You do have to be self-motivated to progress your own development, but the opportunities are there and you get out of it what you're putting in.
